Jacket name: “Mackinaw coat,” “Timmins Dinner jacket,” "Sudbury Smoking Coat” or “Pendleton shirt.” Many names same beast. Origin: 1811, made by Metis women in Mackinac, Michigan. Some trader was like, hey ladies sew the British Army some coats! They ran out of blue cloth so they used some plaid blankets, accidentally invented the best fashion item known to man. True story, look it up.Who wore it best?
Made popular by hunters, fishermen and lumberjacks in the Midwest, Alaska, and Northwest Territories. Marlon Brandon in a movie in the 50’s (my aunt Doreen’s favorite flick), the Beach Boys in the ‘60’s and the Vancouver Park Gangs in the 70’s.
